Good morning. It's Tuesday, May 26. Eugene is in its "go outside, but make it artsy" era - with parks turning into listening rooms and local makers proving the weird stuff really does work. Take a breath, clear a little space on your calendar, and lean into the good kind of local. Alright, here's today's edition of your Eugene Lowdown:
Ambient Ecology Concert Set for Saturday
Ambient Ecology: Ambient Music in the Park is scheduled for Saturday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Maurie Jacobs Park on Fir Lane. The free event blends calming soundscapes with the outdoor setting and draws on composer Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening concept. The program aims to connect arts experiences with public open space.
A Typewriter That Runs a Computer
In 1991, Steve La Riccia launched the first Salon De Refuses to showcase work rejected from the Mayor's Art Show, then helped run New Zone gallery pop-ups and shows. Later, his steampunk techno art took off, including a working computer using an 1897 Remington typewriter. Now he runs the traveling Museum of Techno Art.
